A
village in the Gunupur subdivision is 94
kms from Raygada district. The Jagdamba
hill nearby is abode to five Lord Shiva
temples namely, Manikeswar, Dhavaleswar,
Mallikeswar, Nilakantheswar and Podukeswar.
Archaeological findings have revealed Buddhist
connections of the place at Mallikeswar
shrine, where the inscriptions are in the
characters of the 7th century AD, preserving
a small genealogy of three Buddhist Acharyas
– Chandralekha, Bhaddhakhan and Dharmakirtti.
The archaeological evidences indicate a
monastery of Acharya Dharmakirtti flourished
in the hill. |
