| Also known
as 'time quintessence of Orissan architecture',
the temple of the great Lingaraja is a graceful
epitome of fully matured Orissan temple
architecture dating back to the eleventh
century. The 55-meter high temple dominates
the Bhubaneswar skyline up to a distance
of 15 km radius and exudes glory of the
presiding deity Svayambhu linga, which is
considered to be a 'hari-hara' linga, that
is, half Shiva, half Vishnu. The exemplary
temple includes Natamandira (hall of dance)
and Bhog-mandapa (hall of offerings), besides
housing 150 subsidiary shrines within its
complex. |
